April 2019

Michelle, a tea blogger at One More Steep recently visited The Secret Garden. She loved her visit, sharing:

“I had a wonderful time at The Secret Garden Tea Company, and I can see why it’s a favourite for afternoon tea in Kerrisdale. Their branding is on-point and well represented throughout the darling shop and dining area, and I love the fact that they offer seasonal menus to change it up and allow patrons to read over the varying menus on their website. The service from the ladies working at The Secret Garden Tea Company on the Monday that my friend and I went was top notch – starting from the hostess who greeted us at the door to the knowledgeable server who was able to offer her thoughts on the different Earl Grey options.”

October 2016

Recently Kathy was interviewed by the Vancouver Sun! She shared how her grandfather, a successful construction magnate, gave her business advice from a young age:

“‘One of the things he always said was to set money aside for the hard times,” says Wyder. “He was a child of the Depression but it made such a big impression on me. It’s how we were able to make this move into a bigger space.

‘He also said make sure that you give people quality and treat them well and they’ll come back… I laugh because that was in my 20s and I had other things on my mind. Dinners at Grandpa’s house would always include stories about his construction business that were not only entertaining but rich in wisdom.”

Vancouver Observer – “Why we love Kerrisdale”

Vancouver Observer Media Feature - Secret Garden Tea Company in Vancouver

September 2015

“Jennifer Hungerford and her seven-year-old daughter Victoria are the unofficial ‘tea party tourists’ of Kerrisdale. It’s a tradition they started when Victoria was three, and since then they’ve had tea parties all over the neighbourhood.

“’She’s big into tea,’ Jennifer says with a smile as her daughter picks a peach and pistachio frangipane tart from the three-tiered tray in front of them. Today they’ve chosen the Secret Garden Tea Company on West Boulevard, their favourite local tea party purlieu.

“’My grandmother was English and we had tea every Sunday when we visited,’ she explains. ‘It’s something we don’t really do at home ceremoniously like she would do, but when we come here it sort of feels like what she would normally have.’

This is why people love Kerrisdale so much, I realize, turning my attention back to my own pot of steaming vanilla rooibos. There’s something here for everybody that reminds them of home and heritage…”

One of the owners, Kathy Wyder, says many bridal showers are conducted on site. You can bring your own décor and request your favourite tea blends to make your shower perfect. “The Perfect Earl Grey Tea”

Best place for Earl Grey Tea - Secret Garden in Vancouver, Canada

Graphic designer and blogger VisualHeart calls our Creamy Earl Grey the perfect Earl Grey:

“I’m sharing a secret. I love Earl Grey tea and for years I thought I was enjoying a good cup, but then I went to a bridal shower at a local tea shop and discovered the most amazing Earl Grey tea on the planet. I’m not even exaggerating, it’s really that good.

“The tea is from The Secret Garden Tea Company in Vancouver, British Columbia. It’s loose tea and when you poke your nose into the container to smell it, it’s magical and creamy. Blends of citrus and vanilla, perfect on it’s own or with a dash of cream and sugar.

“I love it on it’s own because the aroma is so perfect.”

Sororitea Sisters

The Sororitea Sisters tea blog reviewed a number of our teas:

Provence Rooibos – “This is a really lovely melody of flavors.  I like the way the floral notes of lavender and rose contrast with the earthy and nutty flavors of the rooibos and the sweet-tart berry notes of elderberry and blueberry.”

Mango Green Tea – “The mango is sweet and has a flavor that reminds me of fresh mango.  It has a very authentic fruit flavor.”

Secret Garden’s Secret Black Tea – “It’s really quite a delicious and a fun tea to drink.  I’m really glad I tried this one!”

Vanilla Almond Black Tea – “This is so smooth from start to finish.  It starts out smooth and creamy, I pick up on the vanilla immediately.  As the sip progresses, I notice the almond and the sweet, nutty flavor accentuates the creamy, sweet vanilla tones beautifully.  These two flavors were made for one another!”

Avalon Blend Black Tea –   “This is the first tea that I’ve tried from The Secret Garden and I think we’re off to a good start with this blend.  [A] really pleasant twist on an Earl Grey Creme!”

Review of The Secret Garden Tea Company - teahouse with amazing scones

Food blogger Maggie Mei reviewed our High Tea and other menu items, saying:

“Located in a lovely area with abundant parking, this is an easy destination for a get together with friends , or as an afternoon snack stop by yourself. They offer everything you imagine tea to be: a peaceful setting, based on the other patrons seated; a warm friendly environment cultivated by inviting and accommodating staff; and delectable nibbles, each deserving of its own feature. And if you think high tea will not enough food for you they also offer a heartier breakfast and a more fulsome lunch. From soups and salads, to stews and pot pies. Don’t deny your cravings.”
