“Tea to the English is really a picnic indoors.” — Alice Walker
Pick up some High Teas To Go for Mother’s Day and surprise your mom with a special array of sweets and savouries…and tea of course! We even have a Children’s High Tea To Go, so you can celebrate with your own little ones.
Here are a few tips to create a special tea experience:
1. Have a picnic
Weather permitting, pick up your High Teas To Go then swing by Queen Elizabeth Park or VanDusen Botanical Gardens just a few minutes away. Enjoy your treats in a gorgeous natural setting, then enjoy a beautiful walk through the gardens.
2. Hold a tea party at home
Break out your fine China and celebrate Mother’s Day with a special tea party at home. We also rent teaware to complete the Secret Garden experience!
3. Take a rain cheque
If your mother doesn’t live in town, give her a High Tea For Two gift certificate so you can enjoy tea together next time she visits!
Now it’s even easier to share the Secret Garden experience with friends! In addition to paper in-store gift certificates, we now offer In-Store, High Tea For Two, and Online Store gift certificates in email format.
When you purchase an email gift certificate, we will send it to you as a PDF which you can print out or email directly to your gift recipient. It’s the perfect solution for last-minute gift shopping!
At The Secret Garden, we love sharing the tea experience with kids! We even feature a special Children’s High Tea menu.
Below you can download our colouring page which we offer for little ones to enjoy during teatime!

One of our favourite holiday traditions is our Christmas Spice Black Tea, which we only offer this time of year.
This heavenly black tea blend melds citrus peel, almonds, vanilla bean, clove, rose petals, and cardamom to create a naturally sweet infusion with a bit of spice.
We hope you’ll find time to cozy up with a big pot of tea and savor the happy moments this holiday season!
We just had to share this adorable photo from Kathy’s sister Karen. Karen’s cat Ginger is enjoying a cozy tea time by the fireplace!
What tea is Ginger enjoying, we wonder… Ginger Lemongrass? Pep-purrmint? Perhaps Cream-meow Earl Grey!
We love walking into the Secret Garden on a crisp fall day, anticipating the hot tea, fun conversation, and delicious treats we’ll be enjoying soon!
We recently introduced a delicious new Kale Salad to our lunch menu: tender kale and romaine dressed with parmesan Caesar dressing, toasted almonds, and garlic cheese croutons.
And we’re very excited to introduce a new High Tea Menu for autumn:

- Hickory Pork and Shiitake Mushroom on Mini Croissants
- South American Roast Beef on Petit Cheddar-Chive Corn Muffins
- Scone with Raspberry Jam and Devonshire Cream

Sue is a customer who works at Hager Books around the corner from our store. Recently her nephew was diagnosed with a chronic liver disease called Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis (PSC). Before his illness he was an avid athlete, in his second year of college on a baseball scholarship.
Sue and her family discovered that very little is known about how to treat PSC, so they undertook the huge task of raising enough money to fund medical research. They recently held a fundraiser, to which Secret Garden donated. So far Sue and her family have raised $33,000 of their $50,000 goal!
To donate to their goal, please visit the Canadian Liver foundation at liver.ca/psc. Sue also emphasized the importance of becoming an organ donor. She said, “It is the greatest gift you can give and can save many lives!”
