The Secret Garden is passionate about supporting local communities. One organization we are proud to support is ONE TO ONE, a free children’s literacy program which helps students throughout the lower mainland improve their reading skills.
Each year The Secret Garden donates sweets, savouries and tea to support ONE TO ONE’s Volunteer Appreciation Tea at the Hycroft Manor. This month 380 volunteer tutors will be honoured for their dedication – many of them for 5, 10 and even 20 years of service!
ONE TO ONE sees volunteering as a way to prevent social isolation which is so common these days. Their program not only helps students thrive, but also bridges generational gaps and fosters community. Visit their website to learn more about becoming a volunteer tutor. They’re also hosting an annual Spelling Bee Fundraiser in May, and are accepting both corporate teams and individual participants!

“Never trust a man who, when left alone in a room with a tea cozy, doesn’t try it on.”
— Bill Connoly

Every few months we feature new artwork at the Garden. This month we’re showcasing works by local artist Elisabeth Sommerville, who specializes in stone lithography.
Elisabeth’s gorgeous lithographs reflect the natural beauty of Vancouver. Visit the Secret Garden this spring to see more of her work, or find out more on her website elisabethsommerville.com.

Spring is just around the corner. It’s refreshing to have some sunshine and see delicate crocuses and snowdrops peeking out of gardens!
If you’re in a floral mood this month, try our Avalon Blend Black Tea. It’s luscious blend of vanilla, rose petals and citrusy bergamot that pairs perfectly with our March High Tea.
For every sale of Avalon Blend, we donate a portion of proceeds to the Avalon Recovery Society, where women in recovery can find strength and hope in a supportive environment.

This week, we’re grateful for humour and playfulness! Sometimes the ability to laugh at yourself makes a stressful situation feel a little lighter. And sharing a laugh with a friend is one of life’s best treasures. Kids seem to get it, but sometimes grownups forget… laughter really is the best medicine!

As the holiday season approaches, we’d like to express gratitude for family. The Secret Garden recently celebrated its 22nd birthday, and our friends, parents, siblings, husbands, and children are just as much a part of the Secret Garden story as we are! Their support and encouragement has made everything we do possible. This season, we hope you have a chance to celebrate with loved ones of your own!
