Temporary Closure due to COVID-19 Crisis

Hello from the Secret Garden,

Starting March 19, 2020, we are temporarily closing our doors due to the coronavirus epidemic. It was a difficult decision, but the safety of our staff and customers are top priority. Here is a brief video message to you from Erin and Kathy:

We will be putting out daily messages, so please join our community on Facebook and Instagram to stay connected and support each other through these turbulent times.

Small businesses are really suffering right now, but you can help support your community by shopping online. We are offering a limited time sale on in-store Gift Certificates, so you can save up to $30 on future visits.

You can also still purchase our teas online, to be delivered straight to your doorstep. Now more than ever we can use a simple ritual to help us pause, breathe and gain perspective on the stresses we are facing!

The Secret Garden has been a gathering place for over 20 years, and we are so grateful for your support of our small family-owned business. We look forward to opening our doors to you again in the near future. Let’s get through this together!

Secret Garden server Jaime Piercy (pictured bottom right) will be starring in Steel Magnolias

One of our wonderful servers, Jaime Piercy, has been a performer since age 8. She is now co-producing and starring in the play Steel Magnolias at The Nest on Granville Island, February 14-March 8.

Jaime and her colleagues actually decided to produce this play while meeting over tea at The Secret Garden! Steel Magnolias is a heart-warming story of female resilience and the relationships women form to help each other through life.

You can enjoy $5 off each ticket purchase by using discount code SECRET. Join them for opening night on 2/14 and receive a glass of champagne, a rose, and your choice of chocolate or cupcake!

guest speakers

At Women Aging Well you’ll hear from two fantastic guest speakers:

Dr. Liisa Galea, a Professor of Psychology, Director of the Graduate Program in Neuroscience, and Scientific Advisor at Women’s Health Research Institute at UBC. As the evening’s primary speaker, she will share the impact that stress and age can have on the female brain, the development of diseases such as Alzheimer’s, and what you can do to keep your brain healthy.

Genesa Greening, President + CEO of BC Women’s Health Foundation. As the moderator of the evening’s discussion, she will provide her own advice and experience on aging with resilience in the face of chronic pain and an inequitable health care system.

You’ll be treated to a wide array of Secret Garden treats including savouries, desserts, tea, and sparkling wine. You’ll also receive a Secret Garden surprise goodie to take home.

Last year this special event sold out, so we recommend buying your tickets soon. We hope to see you there!

The Secret Garden regularly features works by local artists. This month we are showcasing photography by Jennifer Lamb, a Secret Garden customer and Kerrisdale resident for over 35 years.

Observing the world with camera in hand, she is fuelled by curiosity, delighted by discovery and inspired by beauty. Jennifer hopes her abstract and bird images will provide a serene backdrop for many enjoyable conversations over tea at the Secret Garden!
